Annelise Bjørner graduated from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts School of Architecture in 1957. She has famously designed furniture and silver and was in 1968 awarded the Eckersberg Medal. In the period of 1971 to 2003 Bjørner worked as a resident designer for Georg Jensen.
In 1972 the Annelise Bjørner lever handle was launched, which was originally a part of her trainee work from the design line at The Royal Academy of Fine Arts. The aim for the design was to express its function in an elegant and classic form, with an interplay of well-defined curves and flat surfaces.
Bjørner’s work includes the design of a special cutlery series and cabinet as a present to the Crown Princess Margrethe II’s marriage to Henri Marie Jean André, Count de Laborde de Monpezat in 1967.
Bjørner received the Lis Ahlmann scholarship in 2011 with the following statement: "Your designed door handle, along with Kay Otto Fisker's, is the most beautiful and thorough work. It has clear reference to tradition, but has an independent expression - a conformational idea - which is significantly visible".
The Annelise Bjørner collection includes lever handle, thumb turn and toilet indicator.
