Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects was founded in 1986 by architects Morten Schmidt, Bjarne Hammer and John F. Lassen. Working out of studios located in Copenhagen, Aarhus and Shanghai, they provide skilled architectural services all over the world. The group is deeply committed to the Nordic architectural traditions based on democracy, welfare, aesthetics, light, sustainability and social responsibility.
The Schmidt Hammer Lassen lever handle was developed for the ARoS Art Museum in Aarhus which was inaugurated in 2004.
The aim was to create a unique and functional design matching the grand-yet-modest artistic space. Without unnecessary decoration and details, the design submits the architecture and leaves visual space for the experience of art and architecture. The angular design was chosen to emphasize attention to the soft, curved interior.
Despite the rather hard and sharp angled design, users are met with a soft and pleasant feeling when touching the lever handle. The perfectly rounded edges creates a balance between form and functionality.
The collection consists of the stainless steel lever handle, thumb-turn, toilet indicator and back plates.
