background

Sleek steel
meets 70's revival

A year ago, Johanne Landbo and her little family took the big leap and moved from a rooftop apartment in Barcelona to an original 70’s house the small Danish village Thy. Though it was a major change, they were never in doubt that this gem in Northern Jutland was their new home.

It was clear from the beginning that the house was never to be demolished, but carefully renovated with the intention of preserving the original materials. The bathroom was the first room to be refurbished and it didn’t come without challenges.

“The tiles of the bathroom have been of expensive quality back in the 70s and is no longer traded, so it was a delicate process to peel them down to be able to change pipes and sanitation. We wanted to preserve the style the house has been given and reuse the materials that were already there” – Johanne Landbo

The greatest inspiration for the bathroom and the rest of the house came from old interior books from the 1970’s, but since the materials from that decade can be quite remarkable Johanne wanted to combine them with clean wooden furniture and contemporary steel and charcoal elements. The taps, showers and sanitary ware in the bathroom are steel pieces from the Qtoo and Knud Holscher collection. To create a contrast to the steel elements, Johanne chose the inflated Fat lever handle in charcoal from our collaboration with Tom Dixon.

“We are extremely happy with d line's sanitary products in the bathroom. They exude quality and simplicity, which underpins the clean look we've tried to create. All sanitary parts give a modern, minimalist look against the old tiles, and at the same time they all have a soft look with the feminine curves. Knud Holscher's dustbin, toilet brush and toilet roll holder are from the 70s, which is the decade our bathroom is from, and therefore both design and quality were right in our spirit. No compromise has been made with the quality or aesthetics of Knud Holscher's items, despite the fact that they are small, quite anonymous objects for the bathroom." – Johanne Landbo
