"We design our buildings with a very restrained material palette and like to use things that have a clear purpose and material quality that relates to this. The d line products are similarly restrained and purposeful and that sits well in the overall conception of our buildings." - Alun Jones
Maggie's
Centre
A calm space
away from home
The founder of Maggie's Centre, Maggie Keswick Jencks used her own experiences to create a new type of cancer care. Maggie's idea, was a centre that could bring people together in a calm and friendly place, and make the experience of cancer more manageable for everyone involved.
The Maggie's Centre in Cardiff, Wales was designed by Dow Jones Architects. The building was inspired by the shape of the local mountains, and there are also elements of welsh architecture within the building, such as the cwtch. The cwtch is a room lit space inspired by the simnau fawr, which means big chimneys. The building has a strong bond to nature, and the beautiful courtyard becomes a space for relaxation and comfort.
Throughout the building, d line products from the Knud Holscher collection was used on the doors. Director of Dow Jones Architects, Alun Jones, said "We chose d line because we like the timeless design and the quality of the solid stainless steel ironmongery. The coupe handle is nice and compact and feels good in the hand".
