background

Cubo

Cubo Architects was founded in 1992 and is built upon the notion of pushing the envelope on technological capability while staying true to the aesthetic tradition of craftsmanship. Cubo received Nykredit’s Architecture Award for the ability to combine functionality with experiences, aesthetic and artistic values.

The Cubo lever handle was designed in 2006 based on their interest in working with pure geometries. Following the desire to enrich and influence the simple action of opening a door - where a blade of steel is subjected to turns and twists - they created a form which is immediate and simple.

The Cubo lever handle is accompanied by thumb turns, toilet indicators, and a window lever.

In 2011 Cubo was put in charge of designing a new office building for the House of Disabled People’s Organisations. The new structure was conceived so that everyone – regardless of ability – could work and move freely within it.

The building’s disability solutions had to be subtle enough to integrate into the architecture, and the Cut lever handle, created in collaboration with both Cubo and a group of occupational therapists, was an integral part of making the office space barrier-free.

The Cut lever is designed with a bevel-edge to minimise bacteria accumulation. The series also consists of thumb turns, toilet indicators and the CUT furniture handles.
